Why the UK keeps the service files of the ww2 dead inaccessible, I don't know. In Canada, these files have been digitised and are freely accessible to those of us who wish to preserve and publish their stories. My uncle was a bomb aimer on a Lancaster. Killed in a mid air collision on 5 Dec 1944. I can honour all the crew in my memoriam with snippets from their RCAF service files.... except the Flt Engineer who was RAF and so I have nothing to write about him. No file photo. His was Sgt. Charles Norman Collingwood 1595173, a Yorkshie lad. Wish there was a photo like this of him. Thanks for posting it.
